Staff

Mark Bennett and Dr Catherine Hamlin

As in all hospitals, the staff now encompasses doctors, nurses, nurses aides, administration personnel, pharmacists, lab assistants and the hard-working cleaners.

Dr Hamlin (now in her '80s) is the Founder.

Mr Mark Bennett is the Chief Executive Officer.  He served for six years as Program Coordinator for Refuge Egypt, a Cairo-based organisation and latterly, as Diocesan Development Director of the Episcopal Church in Egypt.

Dr Hamlin has a team of surgeons who are dedicated in their support of her work.

Much of the pre- and post-operative care is supervised by Sister Ejigayehu (above left), the matron, assisted by experienced senior nurses, and by many former patients who have been trained in many tasks.

There is a full-time Business Manager, Genet Kifle, and she leads a small efficient staff - all Ethiopian.

There are regular visits by surgeon trustees of this Charity and by other eminent surgeons, usually from the UK, who treat difficult cases at no cost to the hospital.  Of particular note is Professor Gordon Williams, originally from The Hammersmith Hospital in London, a Consultant Urologist, who is now Medical Director of the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital.  His contributions are enormous and his work greatly appreciated.

Training of medical staff is a top priority and often surgeons intending to work in this field in other parts of the world come here for training.
